A large rain band is set to move over Perth tonight as a tropical low makes its way south towards the city.

A warning for heavy rainfall, severe weather, and abnormally high tides has been issued and authorities hope the rain will provide relief for fire affected regions.

Approximately 20 to 40 millimetres of rain is expected to fall up to Sunday night, the heaviest fall since spring.
